Glenn Brewer - if i was a fighter, winning would be my primary objective, not entertaining the crowd. there are a lot of "warriors" out there who "who put on a show for the crowd" and "left it all in the ring" but can barely speak right now. if you get time check out the feature hob did on the fight between meldreic taylor and julio cesar chavez…

Julio Cesar Chavez vs. Meldrick Taylor - HBO - Legendary Nights - Documentary - Pt. 1

I think most people, even his detractors, agree that floyd one the fight. most even think that if he could win without taking risks, he should have. it's the smart thing to do.

but even though being exciting isn't the most important thing, it still is important. the charges of money "running" are just not true. good foot work is good footwork. but folks are tired all the hitting and holding and throwing one punch at a time. the bottom line is that floyd has gotten much more cautious over the years and folks are just not as entertained. and if folks aren't entertained, revenue drops. floyd repeatedly said he didn't need pac but i think he did. floyd's last two fights didn't even get 1 million buys. les moonves paid floyd a lot of money for that showtime deal and wanted a return on his investment. no one cared about money fighting anyone other than pac.

Muhammad Rasheed - 1.) The excitement came from the people who insisted Manny had all the tools and will to defeat Floyd finally getting the chance to see it happen. The energy of the hype build-up all the up to the first bell was the excitement. They're just pissed that their guy didn't take more risks to make it happen. When they say "it wasn't exciting" they mean "the guy I was rooting for didn't win." That's the excitement that made this the highest grossest boxing match of all time, the excitement of the drama surrounding it.

2.) The suggestion that the undefeated world champion should deliberately fight down to his opponent's level so that the lesser fighter will have a better chance at winning is an opinion I'd expect to come from a racist's mouth when trying to convince a dominant black champion to let the Great White Hope win "for the fans." It's not worth entertaining even for an instant. It was Manny's job to make it happen, not Floyd's job to coddle his sensitive enemies' feelings. Anyone at all who truly believes that the boxer should stop boxing and stand toe-to-toe and slug with his rival, is expressing an opinion that isn't worthy of respect.

3.) I agree that since the entire world thought that Manny was the Chosen One that could finally defeat Floyd, he needed to fight him to cement his legacy. But it was the Manny fans that made it so, not boxing itself. Floyd had a guaranteed $200 million payout from his 6-fight Showtime/CBS deal, so technically he DIDN'T need Manny. But part of that deal was that he could make well over that $200 million from the pay-per-view sales and the stadium ticket gate according to quality of opponent. Thanks to the over-zealous Manny true believers super-hype, they delivered such an opponent on a silver platter.

Glenn Brewer - "1.) The excitement came from the people who insisted many had all the tools and will to defeat Floyd finally getting the chance to see it happen. nah, there have been rumblings of him being boring for a while. whether or not it's true is it subjective. but folks have been feeling this way for a while. i've heard mayweahter supporters saying the were done after the second maidana fight...

surely this isn't a response to something i wrote in this thread???????

beat that strawman to death!!! here's some theme music..

DJay (Terrence Howard) - Whoop That Trick

i never said that. i think floyd did exactly what he was supposed to do. my point is that folks are less inclined to pay for it. and the only reason this fight did damn near 5 million in pay per view was because he was fighting pac. i'd bet money vs khan wouldn't even have hit a million.

"i agree that since the entire world thought that Manny was the Chosen One that could finally defeat Floyd, he needed to fight him to cement his legacy."

i never said this.

"Floyd had a guaranteed $200 million payout from his 6-fight Showtime/CBS deal, so technically he DIDN'T need Manny. "

yeah, floyd had the money but folks weren't happy. if they couldn't stick it to money, somebody was going to pay. all hayman is floyd's right hand man...

“CBS CEO Les Moonves has given Showtime boxing head Stephen Espinoza the ultimatum to deliver Floyd Mayweather vs. Manny Pacquiao… Or else,” Malinowski stated in his article at ringobserver.com. “If he can’t deliver Floyd, Espinoza will be out of a job. And Haymon will also be out because the new boxing boss will not work with Haymon beyond the final two contracted Mayweather fights. So Haymon, already banned from HBO, will in effect be banned at Showtime."

Todd Holland - A LOT of people put all their eggs in Manny's basket to put this "Uppity" Negro in his place, and that bucket got run over by a semi truck,so NOW,the fight was boring, not entertaining,Manny was REALLY hurt, and every OTHER excuse in the book.....I can't WAIT for Floyd to get these suckers for another $100 for the inevitable rematch....

Glenn Brewer - "A LOT of people put all their eggs in Manny's basket to put this ‘Uppity’ Negro in his place..."

a lot of folks hate this dude. he's black, skilled, business savoy and independent. he'll never really come out and admit it but i think bob arum hates him most. black fighters are not supposed to think for themselves and run there own companies.

Muhammad Rasheed - 1.) Of course whether one person feels a fighter's style is boring or not is subjective. On many levels. People who are actual students of boxing recognize that "styles make fights," and among them they have their opinions as to which style they personally like best. The layperson who is not a student of the sport/discipline, but gets all of his understanding of what he thinks it's about from Hollywood, also has a subjective opinion, but it is weak and based on ignorance. That type of opinion makes up about 99% of the folk that rooted for Manny during this fight, and why I have such contempt for people that say "running & hugging" describing Floyd's strategy. Ignorance is not a virtue, and it is never worthy of respect no matter how passionate it is.

2.) The only reasons why "folks weren't happy" is because their guy lost, and they didn't understand what they were watching because they didn't know the game.

3.) You did say you thought that Floyd needed Manny. I gave my opinion as to why he did need him for his career.

4.) Do you think that was a strawman? People who say that the fight was boring and blame it on Floyd aren't suggesting that Floyd stop boxing and start slugging toe-to-toe? If not, then what ARE they talking about, Glenn?

5.) Haymon being Floyd's "right hand man" had nothing to do with Manny's inability to penetrate Floyd's defense and make it happen for his fans inside of the squared circle.

Glenn Brewer - @Muhammad Rasheed… i've know you for a while via bsh.com and we've had pretty cool discussions. we've talked mma and a little boxing and though we've disagreed, i've always felt like it was two guys talking about sports that they really liked. i could go back and forth with you all day brah, but if this is how you really feel...

"I have such contempt for people that say "running & hugging" describing Floyd's strategy"

...i going to go ahead and check out of this one.

Muhammad Rasheed - Do you feel he was "running & hugging?"

Muhammad Rasheed - I certainly hope not, because that's what people say when they have no idea what they are talking about. If we've talked about boxing/MMA before then that means you should know better, right?
